Connect Shield
Service & Spending Variation Index

Know your SSVI score before CMS uses it against you.

CMS scored every hospice in the country from 0 to 16 using nine claims-based measures. Look yours up, see exactly which measures drive it, and fix the ones you can.

What the SSVI actually is

Introduced in the FY2027 Hospice Wage Index proposed rule (CMS-1851-P), the Service and Spending Variation Index is a single 0–16 score built from nine claims-based metrics. It combines a Non-Hospice Spending Score (0–8) with a Utilization Score (0–8) drawn from eight service-delivery measures. A higher score signals greater deviation from peer norms — and scores at the high end can trigger program-integrity review.

Common question

Can I change my SSVI score?

The published score reflects prior-year claims and can't be changed retroactively. But knowing which measures flagged you lets you correct the billing and visit patterns before the next scoring window.
